Makassar is rich in potential for nature tourism, culture and history. Places of interest include Losari Beach, Fort Rotterdam, Prince Diponegoro's Tomb, and the new Trans Studio theme park, the third largest in the world. The nearby town of Maros is home to Bantimurung waterfall; where visitors can enjoy a soak in the natural hot springs, or enjoy the wide variety of butterflies. Samalona Island, only five minutes from Makassar's harbor by speedboat, makes an excellent family excursion, with swimming, fishing, and even karaoke.
